Driving in the Area

  • The city sits on two toll motorways. Expect €0.10–€0.15 per km on the A61 (east) and A62 (west). Cash or card works in the blue lanes. Orange lanes are Télépéage (electronic tag only).
  • The urban Low Emission Zone requires a Crit'Air sticker on weekdays 07:00-20:00. Order it online before arrival.
  • Speed limits are 130 km/h (81 mph) on dry motorways, 110 km/h (68 mph) when wet, and 80 km/h (50 mph) on rural two-lane roads.
  • Many village streets near the Canal du Midi are under 3.2 m (10 ft 6 in) high. Check signs before entering.
  • Fuel stations close on Sunday afternoon in rural areas. 24-hour card pumps are common but sometimes reject foreign cards.

  • Many village "borne camping-car" units charge €2 for 100 L of water. Carry euro coins.

Practical Tips

  • Wild camping is illegal in Haute-Garonne. Overnight parking on public roads risks a €135 fine. Use official aires or campsites.
  • Sudden storms can flood the Garonne River. Avoid low riverside parking after heavy rain.
  • Dial 112 for any emergency. Local numbers: medical 15, fire 18, police 17.
  • Pharmacies display the name of the nearest night-duty pharmacy on their door.
  • Many fuel stations sell LPG (GPL), but adapters vary. Carry the French "DISH" connector.
