• Mexico’s tourism revenue reached $24.57 billion in 2019.³ However, during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, this decreased to $11 billion⁴.
• Mexico saw signs of recovery with $19.77 billion in international tourism expenditure in 2021⁵, increasing to $28.02 billion in 2022 and $30.69 billion in 2023⁶.

Foreign tourists staying in Mexican hotels averaged 3.7 nights per stay in 2024, according to SECTUR’s DataTur monitoring of hotels in 70 destinations. The figure has held between 3.5 and 3.8 nights every year since 2016.¹²

• Stays are much longer at the beach: foreign guests averaged 4.6 nights in beach destinations in 2024, against 1.9 nights in cities.¹²
• The 2024 beach average matches the 2022 high of 4.6 nights and is above the 4.1 nights of 2019.¹²
• Domestic tourists stay far less time in hotels, averaging 1.8 nights in 2024.¹²

These figures cover hotel stays in the monitored destinations only, not the full length of a trip, so total time in the country is longer. SECTUR has not yet published the 2025 figures.

• December is the most popular, with 5.22 million international tourists in 2025, thanks to holiday celebrations and warm weather perfect for escaping winter.¹
• July follows with 4.25 million tourists during summer vacations¹⁹, while March draws 4.19 million, driven by spring break travel, especially to beach destinations.²⁰
• November brings in 4.16 million travelers drawn by cultural events like Día de los Muertos²¹, and June adds 4.07 million as the summer season begins.²²
• January also sees high tourism, with 3.95 million arrivals, as many continue their holiday trips and seek relief from colder northern climates.²³
• 2026 so far: March has been the busiest month, with 4.49 million international tourists, followed by July with 4.41 million and January with 4.29 million.⁸
