Driving Notes

  • Hannover is inside an Umweltzone (low-emission zone); you must have a green sticker (Feinstaubplakette) on the windscreen.
  • City speed limit is 50 km/h (31 mph) unless signs show lower; country roads are 100 km/h (62 mph); Autobahn has a 130 km/h (81 mph) recommended maximum speed.
  • The A2 and A7 Autobahns meet near the city and can have heavy traffic at rush hour and holiday periods.
  • RVs under 3.5 tonnes do not pay road tolls in Germany.
  • Most street parking spaces fit vehicles up to 6 m (19 ft); longer vehicles should use Stellplätze (dedicated motorhome parks).
  • Many city center areas have 2.9 m (9 ft 6 in) height-limited underground parking; check height clearance signs.

  • Most motorway service areas and Autohof stations around Hannover offer 24 hour fuel; many have coin-operated fresh water taps and toilet cassette disposal.
  • The city's public motorhome service point at Klaus-Müller-Kilian-Weg 2 provides fresh water and waste disposal year-round.
  • Campsites such as Blauer See and Birkensee allow non-guests to use their service stations for a small fee; ask at reception.

Practical Tips

  • The green Umweltzone sticker is required inside the city ring road; buy it at TÜV, DEKRA or some fuel stations for about 10 €.
  • Quiet hours on most campsites and Stellplätze are 22:00–07:00.
  • From 1 November to 31 March winter or all-season tires with the 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol are required in snow or ice conditions.
  • Emergency numbers: 112 for fire or medical help, 110 for police.
  • Tap water is safe to drink everywhere; refill at campsites, marinas and many service stations.
