Driving Tips

  • The expressway speed limit is 100 km/h (62 mph) unless signs show lower speeds. Rural roads often have limits of 50 km/h (31 mph).
  • Tolls apply on most expressways. An ETC card allows you to pass toll gates without cash. Ask the rental company to include one.
  • Many rural roads are under 2.5 m (8 ft) wide. Vans longer than 6 m (20 ft) may have clearance problems and difficulty with tight turns.
  • Gas is called "regular" (unleaded). Diesel pumps are green. LPG is rare outside cities.
  • Large rest stops (Service Areas) display vacancy signs for nearby campgrounds and list road closures in English.
  • Parking lots usually prohibit sleeping in vehicles unless they display the "RV Park" logo.
