Driving Tips

  • Speed limits: 50 km/h (31 mph) in towns, 90 km/h (56 mph) on open roads, 120 km/h (75 mph) on expressways, 140 km/h (87 mph) on motorways.
  • 0.02% blood-alcohol limit applies. Police conduct roadside testing.
  • Headlights must stay on 24 hours a day all year.
  • Use a paper ticket or pay-by-plate app at A2 Konin–Stryków and A4 Wrocław–Sośnica toll sections. No vignette needed for vehicles under 3.5 tons.
  • Winter tires are recommended from November to March. Snow chains are allowed in mountain areas when signs permit. Studded tires are illegal.
  • You must carry a reflective vest, warning triangle and first-aid kit. These are checked during roadside inspections.
  • City center parking zones use meters marked "Strefa Płatnego Parkowania". Pay with coins, card or mobile app. Most zones are free 20:00–08:00.

Fuel, Water, Waste

  • ORLEN, BP and Lotos stations on main routes sell diesel, gasoline and LPG ("AutoGas") and often have drinking water taps.
  • Most commercial campsites provide fresh-water fill and gray/black water disposal for guests. Non-guests pay around 10–20 PLN.
  • Motorway rest areas marked "WC + Camper Service" have drive-over gray drains and cassette toilet disposal points.

Local Tips

  • July and August are school holidays. Book campsites at least 2 weeks in advance and expect higher traffic on coastal roads.
  • Roads in the Białowieża Forest and Bieszczady have wild bison and deer at dusk. Reduce speed to 60 km/h.
  • Kraków introduced a Low Emission Zone in 2024. Check license plate rules before entering the center.
  • Do not camp outside licensed sites or "Zanocuj w Lesie" zones. Fines can reach 500 PLN.
  • Dial 112 for police, fire and medical emergencies nationwide.
