Driving in Mallorca

  • The motorway ring (Ma-20) and main spurs (Ma-13, Ma-19, Ma-15) move traffic efficiently. Most scenic inland and coastal routes are narrow and slow.
  • The speed limit is 120 km/h (75 mph) on motorways, 90 km/h (55 mph) on secondary roads and 50 km/h (30 mph) in towns.
  • Roads in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains have tight curves. Give way to buses and cyclists.
  • Mallorca has no toll roads. Fuel stations accept most international cards.
  • Blue-lined parking zones (marked "ORA") require a parking ticket during approximately 09:00–14:00 and 16:00–20:00. Overnight parking is often prohibited in high season.
  • The island uses roundabouts instead of intersections. Enter only when the lane arrow points toward your exit.
  • Height barriers are common at beach parking areas. Look for alternative RV parking before entering.

Practical Tips

  • Call 112 for any emergency. English operators are available.
  • Wild camping and beach overnight parking are illegal. Fines start at €80.
  • Summer fire risk is high. Portable grills are banned outside designated BBQ areas.
  • Tap water is safe to drink but has a mineral taste. Use service area taps for better taste.
  • Winter winds in the Tramuntana mountains can exceed 40 km/h (25 mph). Park with the front facing into the wind and secure awnings.
  • Book ferry crossings for your motorhome at least 2 weeks ahead in peak season to guarantee space.
