Driving Information

  • The TF-21 road to Teide has steep gradients over 10% and tight curves. Use a low gear when going downhill.

  • Speed limit on TF-1 and TF-5 highways is 120 km/h (75 mph) unless electronic signs show different speeds.

  • All roads are toll-free. No electronic tag is required.
  • LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) is sold as GLP. Only three stations sell it: Las Chafiras, La Orotava, and Santa Cruz. Plan your refills carefully.

  • Overnight street parking is only allowed in marked RV areas. Outside these areas, fines can reach €150.

  • Most fuel stations close at 22:00. Pay-at-pump card readers work after closing hours.

Supply and Service Options

  • Repsol San Isidro (TF-1 exit 57) sells GLP, drinking water, and has a drive-through waste dump point.
  • Mercadona supermarkets in Adeje and Puerto de la Cruz welcome motorhomes for daytime parking and shopping.
  • The municipal service area in La Orotava offers free fresh water and chemical toilet disposal from 08:00 to 20:00.

Important Information

  • Nighttime temperatures above 2,000 m can drop below 0 °C (32 °F) even when the coast stays at 20 °C.

  • Calima dust storms from the Sahara desert reduce visibility. Check the DGT Canarias traffic app before driving in mountains.

  • From June to September, open fires and charcoal grills are banned in all forests due to high fire risk.
  • Dial 112 for any emergency. Operators speak English, German, and Spanish.

  • Apply for public campsite permits online at least 1 day in advance through the Cabildo de Tenerife website.

  • Some ferry boarding areas in Santa Cruz have a 4.3 m (14 ft) height limit. Taller vehicles must request a special lane.
