Car Rental Prices

How much does it cost to rent a car in Alicante?

On average, car rentals in Alicante cost around €54 per day, with the lowest-priced rentals available from €21 per day.

How to save?
  • Compare ALC airport vs city pickup in one search. Airport usually has the widest choice and often sharper pricing in Alicante, but check both to see which wins on your dates.

  • Time it to the season: for July–August on the Costa Blanca, book months ahead as cars sell out and prices spike. In Nov–Mar, availability is strong, so you can book closer when you spot a deal.

  • Choose manual and smaller cars. Manuals are typically much cheaper in Spain, and compact cars are easier to park around Alicante’s Blue Zones and beach areas.

  • Check for weekly rates. A 5–7 day rental can price out cheaper than paying per day.

  • Pick full-to-full fuel and refuel off-airport to avoid service fees and higher pump prices near ALC.

  • Trim add-ons and fees: skip paid GPS and use your phone, only add an extra driver if you need it, and compare any one-way drop fees if returning in Valencia, Murcia or elsewhere.

FAQs

What documents do I need to rent a car in Alicante?
You'll need a valid driver's license, passport and a credit card in your name. If your license is from outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland, you should also carry an International Driving Permit (IDP). You will need this if your license is not in the Roman alphabet. Some rental companies might also ask for one even for English-language licenses.

Is it difficult to drive in Alicante?
You'll find driving in Alicante is fairly easy. The city has good signs and once you get out of the main city area, the roads are in good shape. The main problems you might face are finding parking in summer and driving through some narrow streets in the old town.

What is the best time to rent a car in Alicante?
To get good weather and better prices, we suggest renting a car in May-June or September-October. You'll miss the big summer crowds and enjoy nice weather and cheaper rental rates.

Are there any toll roads around Alicante?
You won't have to pay tolls on the AP-7 highway that runs through the Valencian Community (which includes Alicante). Some other Spanish highways do have tolls (for example, the AP-7 Cartagena–Vera), so you should check your route before you start driving.

Can I take a day trip to other regions from Alicante?
Yes, definitely. Many people take day trips to places like Valencia (2 hours), Murcia (1 hour), Cartagena (1.5 hours) and lots of coastal towns. You'll find the road system is great for exploring the area.

What should I do if I receive a traffic fine?
If a police officer pulls you over, you can pay the fine right away and often get a 50% discount. If a camera catches you, the rental company will send the fine to you and add their own fee for handling it.

Is parking difficult to find in Alicante?
In the busy season, it can be hard to find street parking in the main areas and near beaches. We suggest you use a parking garage or get there early. It's much easier to find parking outside the peak season.

What fuel type will my rental car use?
Most rental cars use either "Gasolina 95" (unleaded gasoline) or "Gasoil" (diesel). You should check which type your car needs before refueling so you don't make a costly mistake.
