Car Rental Prices

How much does it cost to rent a car in Mallorca?

On average, car rentals in Mallorca cost around €33 per day, with the lowest-priced rentals available from €14 per day.

Low-cost rental tips
  • Compare pickup locations. At Palma Airport (PMI) you’ll find the most choice and competition, while off-airport depots can be cheaper but add shuttle time. If you’re based in a resort like Alcúdia or Pollensa, consider renting only for the days you actually need the car.

  • Time your booking to the season. For July–August in Mallorca, book 4–6 months ahead. In shoulder or off-peak months, prices are softer, so comparing different dates and checking back can pay off. Also compare daily vs weekly pricing if you’re close to 7 days.

  • Choose a compact manual. Smaller cars are cheaper and fit Mallorca’s narrow streets. Automatics are limited and usually cost more.

  • Skip paid extras. Use your phone for navigation, bring your own child seat, and compare additional driver fees. Some local outfits include a second driver at no extra cost.

  • Pick “full-to-full” and refuel smart. Full-to-full avoids extra fuel charges, and supermarket petrol stations are typically cheaper than highway ones.

  • Arriving late? After-hours pickup often adds about €50. A taxi to Palma or your resort and collecting the car the next morning can be cheaper overall.

Parking and Local Driving

Car parking zones:

  • White lines: Free car spaces
  • Blue lines: Pay-and-display (ticket from machine required)

  • Yellow lines: No stopping allowed

Palma city car spaces: Use public garages rather than circling narrow streets. Most tourist towns have Blue Zones with time limits (usually 1-2 hours).

Speed limits:

  • Highways: 120 km/h
  • Rural roads: 90 km/h
  • Towns and cities: 50 km/h or lower
  • Resort areas: Often 30 km/h

Traffic restrictions:

  • Palma Low Emission Zone: Restrictions apply to more polluting vehicles. Check current rules and vehicle eligibility before entering the city centre.
  • Cap de Formentor: Closed to private cars from June to September between 10:00-22:00. Use shuttle bus service instead.

  • Historic centres: Many have restricted zones for residents only (marked by "ACIRE" signs or cameras). Don't enter these areas.

Fines:

  • Illegal stopping in disabled spot or yellow zone: Fines apply and towing is possible
  • Blue zone overstay: Fines apply
  • Speeding: Fines increase based on how much over the limit you go and can be substantial
