Car Rental Prices

How much does it cost to rent a car at Juneau Airport?

On average, car rentals at Juneau Airport cost around $106 per day, with the lowest-priced rentals starting at $35 per day.

How to save?
  • Price out both airport and downtown pickups. Downtown avoids the 11% airport concession fee; even after a $20 taxi from JNU you often come out ahead.

  • Lock in summer cars 3-6 months early, then keep stalking the rates. Peak-season prices jump fast but many bookings allow free cancellation, so rebook if you spot a drop. Off-season? Relax and book closer to arrival.

  • Go small. Juneau's road network is only 40 miles (64 km) end-to-end, all paved, so a compact car is plenty and costs less to rent and refuel.

  • Stretch the rental length. A 7-day booking usually beats 5 separate daily rates, and weekend pickups can be slightly cheaper than mid-week.

  • Skip the extras. Use offline phone maps instead of paid GPS and bring your own child seat to dodge daily accessory fees.

Driving Distances from Juneau Airport

FAQs

Can I drive to other cities from Juneau?

No. You can't drive from Juneau to other cities because there are no roads connecting them. The roads only cover the Juneau area and Douglas Island. To get to other places, you have to take a plane or a ferry.

Do I need a 4WD/AWD vehicle in Juneau?

Not in summer (May–September), when all the main roads are paved and clear. In winter (October–April), we recommend an AWD vehicle because you might find snow and ice on the roads.

What documents do I need to rent a car in Juneau?

You need a valid driver's license from your home country. If your license isn't in English, we recommend you also bring an International Driving Permit (IDP). You also have to show a credit card in your name to cover the security deposit.

How far in advance should I book a rental car?

If you're traveling in the summer (June–August), you should book 3–6 months ahead. Cars for the busy season sell out fast, and prices go up a lot for last-minute rentals. For winter trips, you don't need to book as far in advance.

What are the age requirements for renting a car?

You usually have to be at least 21 years old. If you're under 25, the rental company will add a 'young driver' fee of about $25–30 per day. Some special types of cars might require you to be older.

Where can I find parking in downtown Juneau?

You can find public parking at the Downtown Transportation Center (DTC) garage on Marine Way/Whitehead St. and the Marine Parking Garage near the library. You can also park on the street, but there's a 2-hour limit on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Is there a shuttle service from the airport to downtown?

Yes. You can take a Capital Transit bus between the airport and downtown, but they don't run very often. Taxis and rideshares like Uber and Lyft are easy to find. The trip takes about 15 minutes and costs around $20.
