Driving in the Area
- Speed limits are 50 km/h (31 mph) in towns, 80 km/h (50 mph) on rural roads and 130 km/h (81 mph) on autoroutes in dry weather.
- The A10, A62 and A63 autoroutes use toll booths. Take a ticket when you enter and pay cash or card when you exit.
- Order a Crit'Air emissions sticker online before travel. It is required on pollution-alert days inside the Bordeaux ring road.
- Old-town streets are narrow and have height bars under 2.0 m (6 ft 6 in). Use park-and-ride lots (signed P+R) on tram lines.
- Many fuel stations around the ring road are open 24 hours. At unattended pumps, foreign cards sometimes need chip-and-PIN.
- Atlantic coast car parks may fill by 10 am in summer. Arrive early or after 6 pm.

Resupplying Options
- Large hypermarkets (Leclerc Mérignac, Carrefour Lormont) have fuel, LPG and fresh-water taps.
- Most Aires provide water and a dump station. The cheapest near the ring road is Aire Pessac.
- Bordeaux municipal recycling centres accept motorhome grey and black water. You need a badge - ask security.
Important Information
- Forest fire risk peaks July to September. Open flames are forbidden and some tracks close when the alert level is red.
- Atlantic tides can exceed 5 m (16 ft). Check tide boards in car parks at Arcachon Bay to avoid flooded exits.
- Emergency numbers: 112 (all services), 15 (medical), 17 (police), 18 (fire).
- French law requires a reflective vest and warning triangle on board. Keep them reachable from the driver's cab.
- On autoroutes you must use the orange emergency call boxes for breakdown assistance. Towing companies reach you through the highway operator.
- Night-time street parking for campervans inside the Bordeaux ring road is limited to marked bays and usually banned 10 pm to 6 am on riverfront quays.
