Important Tips for International Travellers
- Summer temperatures can exceed 35°C. Carry extra engine coolant and park in shade when possible.
- Wild camping is not allowed in France. Stay at official camping areas or private land with permission.
- Beaujolais harvest in late September brings slow farm vehicles on smaller roads. Drive carefully.
- Dial 112 for all emergencies. Fire brigade is 18, police 17.
- Winter can bring thick fog in the Rhône valley. Use low beam headlights and reduce speed.
- Many fuel pumps are automatic and require a chip-and-PIN credit card. Keep at least ¼ tank before travelling to rural areas.
