Driving in Greece
- Highway speed limit is 130 km/h (81 mph), rural roads 90 km/h (56 mph) and towns 50 km/h (31 mph) unless signs show otherwise.
- Most highways use toll booths. Pay with cash or card at the booth or rent an "e-Pass" electronic tag if you plan many highway crossings.
- Village lanes are narrow. Check your van width and mirror width before entering old towns.
- Summer ferry decks to islands fill quickly. Reserve a vehicle space in advance and note the height limit of 4.5 m (14 ft) on major ferries.
- Fuel stations outside cities may close 13:00–17:00 for afternoon break. Keep your fuel tank above half when driving rural or island routes.
- Wild parking on beaches is often allowed in off-season, but local police may give fines if you put out chairs or awning.

Fuel, Water, Waste
- Major fuel chains (EKO, Shell) on national roads offer 24-hour pay-at-pump diesel. Many also have separate LPG gas nozzles.
- Most organised campgrounds let non-guests fill fresh water for a small tip. Ask at reception.
- Chemical toilet disposal is available at larger tourist camps and the RV service point inside Athens OAKA parking area.
Practical Tips
- July–August heat can exceed 35 °C. Park in shade and carry at least 5 L drinking water per person.
- Strong "meltemi" wind blows across the Aegean Sea in summer and can push high-roof vans. Drive slowly on exposed bridges.
- Wildfire risk is high. If you receive an evacuation SMS from emergency number 112, follow it immediately.
- Wild camping fines start at €150 if police enforce them. Stay hidden from view and never light open fires outside designated areas.
- National holiday traffic is heaviest on 15 August and Easter weekend. Book ferries and campsites well in advance for these dates.
