Plan your camper trip through Croatia – find your ideal camper in minutes

Road Genius compares campervan and motorhome rentals across Croatia so you can pick the right vehicle and supplier. Main pick-up hubs include Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik and Pula, all connected by the A1 motorway and coastal highway D8. Croatia offers clear Adriatic beaches, national parks like Plitvice and historic cities. Ferries allow you to do one-way trips through islands, but book these early in summer.

Driving Tips

  • The motorway speed limit is 130 km/h (81 mph); campervans over 3.5 tonnes are limited to 100 km/h (62 mph).
  • Croatia uses a ticket toll system—take a ticket when you enter the motorway, then pay with cash or card at the exit booth.
  • Headlights must stay on 24 hours a day from the last Sunday in October to the last Sunday in March.
  • Strong Bora wind can close parts of the A1 and D8 near the coast—check road alerts before driving over high bridges.
  • Keep at least one reflective vest per person inside the vehicle, plus a warning triangle and spare bulb kit—police may check these items.
  • Park only in marked spaces. Overnight parking outside official campsites is illegal and fines can reach €1,300.
  • City centers like Dubrovnik and Split have weight and height restrictions—use park-and-ride lots and local buses instead.

Refueling Spots

  • INA and Petrol stations every 30–50 km on the A1 offer diesel, LPG (called "UNP") and often have a fresh-water tap.
  • Larger Konzum supermarket parking lots in coastal towns have coin-operated motorhome service points for water and waste.
  • City RV service areas: Zagreb (Lucko) and Split (Dugopolje) both have black-water and gray-water dumps right off the motorway exits.

Practical Tips

  • Carry cash and coins for small ferries, island camps and rural toll exits.
  • Peak summer means daily ferry queues—arrive 2 hours early with a vehicle wider than 2.2 meters.
  • Mosquitoes are common near wetlands—bring repellent and window screens.
  • Emergency number is 112; roadside assistance is 1987 (HAK).
  • Tap water is safe nationwide—refill whenever possible because inland rest areas can run dry in August.
  • Forest fire risk is high July–August—open flames and charcoal grills are banned outside designated camp BBQ zones.
