Growth of EV charging stations in California

California had 216,445 public and shared EV charging ports as of July 2026, including more than 20,000 DC fast chargers². Zero-emission vehicles took 19.1% of the state's new car sales in Q2 2026.

State funding keeps the build-out going: the California Energy Commission approved a $1.9 billion zero-emission infrastructure plan in February 2024, expected to fund about 40,000 new chargers³, and a further $1.4 billion in December 2024⁴.

Public charging prices in California are set station by station by each network rather than by the state. Electrify America, for example, prices DC fast charging by the charger's location, your plan and the amount of energy delivered, and shows the live price in its app or on the charger before you plug in⁹.
