Many motorways use electronic toll collection called Via Verde. International visitors can pay with a rental transponder or pay within 5 days at post offices or Payshop locations.
Speed limits are 120 km/h on motorways, 90 km/h on rural roads and 50 km/h in towns.

Lisbon city centre has narrow streets and low clearances. Avoid entering Alfama, Bairro Alto and Baixa areas with vehicles over 6 m.
Parking zones require payment Mon–Fri 08:00–20:00 (some areas until 01:00). Waterfront areas ban overnight street parking 00:00–07:00.
The 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama bridges charge tolls when leaving Lisbon.
