Perched at over 1,500 meters in northern Vietnam's Hoang Lien Son mountains, Sa Pa drew more than 4 million visitors for the second consecutive year in 2025. It was ranked the fastest-climbing destination in Asia by the travel platform Agoda, based on international accommodation search growth.

Sa Pa received 4.3 million visitors in 2025, making it the most-visited mountain destination in Vietnam for the second year running.

• Sa Pa drew 820,000 visitors in 2014, the year the Noi Bai–Lao Cai Expressway opened and significantly cut travel time from Hanoi.

International visitors to Sa Pa spend an average of USD 135 per day, with trips averaging 8.02 days in length. Total average trip expenditure comes to approximately USD 1,083 per international visitor.

• At USD 135 per day, international overnight guests outspend domestic day-trippers by a wide margin, making them the higher-yield segment despite lower overall volume.
• Accommodation, guided tours, and artisanal goods are the primary cost drivers for international visitors, while domestic visitors concentrate spending on food, beverages, and transport.

Sa Pa sees its highest visitor concentrations during Lunar New Year (Tet) in late January or February, and the spring bloom period from February through May. Daily arrivals during peak holidays can exceed 28,000 visitors.

• During the 2024 New Year holiday (3 days), Sa Pa received 85,438 visitors, averaging over 28,000 per day, with hotel occupancy reaching 98–100%.
• The 2025 Tet period (9 days) brought 165,000 visitors, averaging 18,333 per day across a longer but less concentrated window.
• In Q1 2026, Lao Cai Province recorded 3.4 million visitors, with March alone contributing 1.75 million, the peak month of the spring blossom season and the single busiest period of the quarter.
• Approximately 40% of Q1 visitors to Lao Cai Province traveled to Sa Pa for spiritual purposes, centered on the high-altitude temple complexes at Fansipan.

Sun World Fansipan Legend and Cat Cat Tourism Village are Sa Pa's two busiest attractions, together drawing over 60,000 visitors during the 9-day Tet 2025 holiday.

• Sun World Fansipan Legend received 33,588 visitors during Tet 2025, continuing its run as Sa Pa's most-visited single attraction.
• Cat Cat Tourism Village welcomed 27,202 visitors over the same 9-day window, making it the leading community-based destination in the area.
• Sun World Fansipan Legend was named the World's Leading Natural Landscape Tourist Attraction for the sixth consecutive year in 2025.
