Driving in the Area

  • Many coastal and mountain roads are under 3 m wide with frequent sharp turns. Plan extra time and use low gears.

  • General speed limits are 50 km/h in towns, 80–90 km/h on rural roads and 110 km/h on expressways unless signs show different limits.

  • There are no toll roads on the island.

  • Gas, diesel and LPG are available but stations in the interior may close at night. Fill the tank before driving long distances in the mountains.

  • Ferries treat propane gas bottles as dangerous cargo. Declare them at check-in to avoid delays.
