• Speed limits are 120 km/h (75 mph) on motorways, 90 km/h (56 mph) on main roads and 50 km/h (31 mph) in towns.

• You can find unleaded petrol and diesel along the N125 road and at most supermarkets. LPG (called GPL in Portuguese) is available at larger Galp and Repsol fuel stations.

• Old town streets in Faro are narrow. Vehicles over 6.5 m (21 ft) should park outside the centre and walk or use public buses.

• Speed cameras operate on both the A22 and N125 roads. Fines are sent by mail to your home address.
