Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) is Iowa’s second-busiest airport and the primary air travel hub for the Cedar Rapids–Iowa City Corridor. It connects Eastern Iowa to destinations across the United States through a range of partner airlines.

Eastern Iowa Airport handles more than 1.5 million passengers annually.

• The airport set a new record in 2025 with 1.63 million passengers, representing a 7.9% increase from 1.51 million in 2024.
• In 2019, CID served 1.34 million passengers before the pandemic disrupted air travel.
• Passenger traffic dropped sharply to 615,935 in 2020, a 54% decline.
• The airport saw a partial recovery with 1.06 million passengers in 2021.
• Recovery continued with 1.22 million in 2022 and 1.38 million in 2023.

Eastern Iowa Airport is served by major legacy and low-cost carriers. Allegiant Air held the largest share in 2025 with 19.7% of enplaned passengers both arriving and departing.

• United Airlines followed with 17.1% while Envoy Air had 16.3%.

• CID processed 304.37 million pounds of cargo in 2024, a 3.5% decrease from 2023.
• Pre-pandemic volumes grew from 349.22 million pounds in 2018 to 377.50 million pounds in 2019.
• In 2020, cargo reached 406.44 million pounds before dipping to 388.70 million pounds in 2021.
• 2022 saw 327.65 million pounds, followed by a further decline to 315.44 million pounds in 2023.

• March 23, 1979: A Beechcraft E18S cargo plane crashed on takeoff, killing both pilots. The NTSB cited crew failure to maintain control on a slushy runway. The captain was impaired with a blood alcohol level of 0.35. Snow, ice and crosswinds contributed. This is the worst accident in CID history.
• September 13, 2005: A Learjet 25B veered off runway 13 during a crew-only flight. No injuries occurred. A nose gear strut seal failure prevented proper alignment, leading to loss of directional control.
• August 10, 2020: A derecho caused minor damage. The terminal lost power, which was restored by backup generators. Some hangars were damaged but no aircraft incidents were reported. The airport’s recovery was later noted in emergency response evaluations.
