Harrisburg International Airport (MDT) Statistics

Harrisburg International Airport (MDT) handled more than 1.5 million passengers in 2025. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) classified MDT as a small-hub primary airport in its final 2024 United States (U.S.) enplanement table.

MDT handled 1.62 million total passengers in 2025, its first year above the 1.6 million mark.

• Passenger traffic moved from 1.29 million in 2014 to 1.29 million again in 2018, after dipping between 2015 and 2017.
• The pre-pandemic peak came in 2019, when MDT reached 1.51 million total passengers.
• Passenger volume fell to 633,310 in 2020, a 58.1% drop from the 2019 record.
• The recovery began in 2021 with 1.02 million passengers, then climbed to 1.26 million in 2022 and 1.3 million in 2023.
• Traffic reached 1.45 million in 2024 before setting the new 2025 record of 1.62 million.

MDT recorded 53,463 aircraft operations in 2025, its highest total since 2014.

• From 2014 through 2018, annual operations stayed near the 50,000 mark, ranging from 47,289 to 51,199.
• Activity stood at 47,412 operations in 2019, then dropped to 37,720 in 2020 during the pandemic.
• Operations rebounded to 48,788 in 2021, then moved to 46,526 in 2022, 50,634 in 2023, and 48,999 in 2024.
• The latest year, 2025, rose 9.1% from 2024 to 53,463 operations.

Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) data show Charlotte and Chicago as MDT’s top domestic airport markets for the 12 months ending February 2026.

• Charlotte led the list with 156.37 thousand passengers between MDT and Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
• Chicago O’Hare was close behind with 152.49 thousand passengers.
• Atlanta ranked third with 104.53 thousand passengers, followed by Philadelphia with 68.39 thousand.
• Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit and Washington Dulles each handled more than 45 thousand passengers in the rolling 12-month period.
• Florida leisure markets also appeared in the top 10, including Sanford with 44.88 thousand, St. Petersburg with 26 thousand and Punta Gorda with 24.48 thousand passengers.

MDT reported $30.05 million in total operating revenue in 2024, the latest year available in the FAA CATS Form 127-based series.

• Total operating revenue rose from $25.63 million in 2014 to $28.24 million in 2018.
• Pre-pandemic revenue reached $29.16 million in 2019 before falling to $20.95 million in 2020.
• Revenue recovered to $24.93 million in 2021 and $25.95 million in 2022.
• The post-pandemic recovery continued with $27.86 million in 2023 and $30.05 million in 2024.

For the 12 months ending February 2026, MDT posted 79% on-time departures, 74% on-time arrivals and a 1.22% cancellation rate for reporting-carrier domestic flights.

• BTS on-time summary data for 2021 shows 85% of departures and 83% of arrivals as being on time.
• Departure performance fell to 78% in 2022, then improved to 83% in 2023 before settling at 80% in 2024 and 79% in 2025.
• Arrival performance was lower in recent years, moving from 81% on time in 2023 to 77% in 2024 and 74% in 2025.
• The cancellation rate peaked at 2.47% in 2022, then stayed between 1.16% and 1.3% from 2023 through 2025.
• Among delayed flights, the average departure delay was 91.48 minutes in 2025, close to the 92.4 minutes reported for the rolling period ending February 2026.

MDT reported 6 new passenger boarding bridges in 2025, with additional terminal and cargo work tied to the 2025–2026 improvement period.

• The airport installed 6 new passenger boarding bridges during the 2025 improvement cycle.
• Cargo expansion plans call for a larger air cargo ramp, 4 new cargo aircraft parking positions and a shovel-ready cargo building site.
• Concession upgrades included refurbished Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, Auntie Anne’s and Capital Café locations.
• New dining options included Yuengling’s 1829 Bar and Grill, Crafted and the Great American Bagel.
• During 2026, 4 restrooms and 2 companion care stations are being remodeled, and new escalators are planned throughout the terminal building and parking garage/rental car facility.
