Birmingham–Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) Statistics

BHM’s currently announced nonstop passenger network is domestic only, with official airport materials showing 22 airport destinations in 19 U.S. cities once Breeze begins service on July 3, 2026.

• Breeze Airways announced new nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale and Raleigh-Durham starting July 3, 2026.
• Spirit Airlines discontinued Birmingham service effective October 3, 2025.

Southwest carried the most passengers at BHM in 2024, with 993,028 total passengers and a 30.6% market share, narrowly ahead of Delta at 984,566 passengers and 30.4% market share.

• Southwest and Delta were effectively tied at the top in 2024, with Southwest finishing ahead by 8,462 passengers.
• American carried 907,999 passengers and held a 28.0% share, while United carried 339,855 passengers for a 10.5% share.
• Spirit Airlines, which appeared in BHM’s monthly reports late in 2024, carried 17,575 passengers and accounted for 0.5% of the annual total.
• The top 4 airlines accounted for 99.5% of BHM’s total passenger traffic in 2024.

BHM reported $56.83 million in total operating revenue in fiscal 2024.

• Official Birmingham Airport Authority figures show total operating revenue rising from $40.78 million in FY2014 to $47.91 million in FY2019 before falling to $43.48 million in FY2020 and $41.02 million in FY2021.
• Revenue then increased to $44.47 million in FY2022, $57.56 million in FY2023, and $56.83 million in FY2024.
• The airport authority’s latest budget sets total operating revenue at $59.78 million for FY2025 and $70.07 million for FY2026.

BHM’s largest confirmed recent capital milestone was the opening of a 53,000-square-foot air cargo facility in June 2024, while Atlantic Aviation’s redevelopment is scheduled for completion in early 2027.

• The Terminal Modernization Project began in 2011 and the completed terminal opened in 2014.

• The airport cut the ribbon on a new $31 million, 53,000-square-foot air cargo facility on June 27, 2024.
