Around 49.5 million people visited Los Angeles in 2025¹, up from 49.1 million in 2023.²

• 2019 set a new record of 50.7 million visitors to Los Angeles.³ Due to the pandemic, visitor numbers fell by almost half to about 27 million in 2020.⁴
• In 2021, visitors to Los Angeles totalled about 40 million.⁵ Domestic travel recovered more quickly, while international travel remained low due to ongoing restrictions.

Los Angeles tourism in 2026: LAX passengers, hotel occupancy and the World Cup

From January to July 2026, LAX handled 42.5 million passengers, 1.1% fewer than in the same period of 2025, with international passengers down 2.4% to 13.5 million; July alone saw 7.06 million passengers⁸.

• Overseas visitor arrivals through LAX totaled 1.73 million from January to July 2026, down 4.5% on a year earlier, while arrivals from Mexico by air rose 12.8% to about 266,000. July's 292,900 overseas arrivals were the highest of any month so far in 2026⁹.
• Hotels in the city's Tourism Marketing District averaged 73.1% occupancy in the first half of 2026, up from 71.8% a year earlier, with an average daily rate of $220 and 4.84 million room nights sold¹⁰.
• The FIFA World Cup drew more than 560,000 fans to eight matches at SoFi Stadium in June and July 2026 and over 250,000 fans to the FIFA Fan Festival at the Memorial Coliseum and ten Official Fan Zones combined, with a projected $892 million economic impact for Los Angeles County¹¹.

International visitors made up 6.4 million of Los Angeles' 49.5 million visitors in 2025¹, down from 6.6 million in 2024⁷ but well above the 4.3 million of 2022, when overseas travel was still recovering⁶.

Los Angeles Tourism names Mexico, China, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia and South Korea as its top international markets in 2025, when international visitation totalled 6.4 million.¹

• Still, Mexico is the leading source of international tourists in Los Angeles in 2023, with 1.71 million visits, followed by Canada with 780,000.²
• China (400,000), the United Kingdom (310,000), South Korea (269,000) and Australia (266,000) rounded out the top six in 2023, ahead of France (264,000), Japan (230,000), Germany (190,000) and India (110,000).²
• In 2022 the top five were Mexico (1.44 million), Canada (590,000), the U.K. and Ireland combined (300,000), France (240,000) and Australia/New Zealand (230,000).⁶
